A Near Future Post Nuclear Apocalypse On Earth

So, in this one, I thought what could potentially happen in the unlikely event the war in the Ukraine escalated to involve NATO.

I thought along the lines of NATO agrees to escalate sanctions against Russia, a sea blockade is created by NATO navies around all Russian ports, especially in the Black Sea and Crimea.

Russia has no real answer to the naval blockades and cannot escalate via their navy which is practically non-existent by this point.

Trade with China and the Middle East by land is accelerated with new roads, rail links and pipelines to circumnavigate the sanctions.

However, Russia’s economy is crumbling, and it is struggling to honour its debts.

NATO forces launch a limited military campaign to occupy the Crimean Peninsula.

 Russian condemns this act and states it is a declaration of war by NATO upon Russia. China also condemns the act and, knowing that NATO is now tied up dealing with Russia launches an invasion of Taiwan.

NATO dispatches a hastily thrown together taskforce and lands on Taiwan along with supporting naval assets, including aircraft carriers etc.

China is thrown back and allowed to evacuate Taiwan with its remaining forces.

However, a state of war now exists between NATO and both Russia and China.

Whilst China is evacuating its forces from Taiwan a NATO mission occupies Hong Kong to a hero’s welcome.

China condemns the act and immediately launches a new air and naval campaign against Nato.

Russia declares its support for China against the unacceptable NATO aggression. China takes heavy casualties but so does NATO, however, Hong Kong remains occupied by British led NATO forces.

A European led NATO force is sent to Ukraine and with Ukrainian forces, they drive back Russian forces.

Russia and China launch a coordinated nuclear strike, some of Russia’s nuclear ICBM’s fail and detonate within Russia. NATO responds with their own coordinated nuclear strike against both Russia and China.

The UK and USA manage to knock out all of the nukes headed their way. Continental Europe is not quite so fortunate.

However, western/European Russia becomes a nuclear wasteland, as does southern and central China.

The fighting doesn’t stop.

In Europe NATO forces continue to operate in the nuclear wastes of eastern Europe and Russia against much diminished Russian successor forces and Eastern European wasteland forces competing for what little is left.

The world climate is also severely affected with temperatures plummeting and a new mini-ice age begins. Slowly NATO crumbles, and countries die, the human population across the world goes from 9 billion to approx. less than 1 billion. Soon, small factions are competing everywhere for ever-decreasing resources. Particularly food. The UK for example sees waves of invaders looking for food and other resources as people are left to fend forthemselves.
