“The Laser” As A Weapon

High Energy Lasers or Directed Energy Weapons will be deployed to the battlefield in the very near future.

Their role initially will be as anti-air weapons, used against drones, missiles, and aircraft generally.

So, let’s assume, like everything, it evolves as a weapon to become more and more powerful in an ever-decreasing package size and weight.

Therefore, it is not against the realms of possibility that HELW (high energy laser weapons) will be deployed as tactical weapons to the battlefield operated by infantry teams.

Potentially you could have a relatively cheap weapon that could melt through armoured vehicles, as opposed to expensive advanced missile systems.

You will also have them deployed in the AA role either on a vehicle or around defensive positions with linked advanced radar etc.
