Further Thoughts On Electronic Warfare Specialists
Hidden Deployment
I was thinking it could be more fun to deploy your
electronic warfare specialists/teams and equipment as a hidden deployment - so
the owning player marks their location on a sketch map of their deployment
area.
You could then add another element to the game by adding in
rules whereby opposing electronic warfare specialists/teams spend EW points
trying to hunt and flush each other out. So long as the specialist remains
static, they remain hidden. And even when they move, they could roll to see if
their movement remained hidden/cloaked.
Once a specialist/team has been found, then they must be
deployed on the tabletop and can then be targeted and destroyed but not until
then.
The hunting rules could be something like:
Electronic Warfare Specialist Hunting - detect and light up
an opposing specialist/team.
EW points cost: 4
Divide the battlefield into quadrants - say either 6"
by 6" or 12" by 12".
Spend the points and pick a quadrant to try and detect any
specialists/teams in.
Roll a D6.
A natural 1 is always a failure and natural 6 is always a
success.
So, for low-tech specialist/team roll 5+ for success.
Mid-tech 4+ for success. High-tech 3+ for success.
If successful and there is an opposing specialist/team in
that quadrant, then they must be physically deployed in that area - however,
they can deploy anywhere in that quadrant i.e. they can utilise cover in that
area.
Also, for a campaign, you could limit replacements,
especially EW specialists/teams. So, the starting number of EW
specialists/teams for your tech level is the maximum amount you can have for
the entire duration of the campaign. They cannot be replaced.
So once discovered and wiped out, that’s it for the rest of
the campaign.
