Turkeys Attack!
A Thanksgiving Sci-Fi Turkey Hunt Scenario
This is
designed to be used with the rules: Five Parsecs From Home Bughunt.
Use 28mm
bird miniatures such as vultures which are readily available from several manufacturers,
if you can find turkey models, please let me know!
Your crew
get wind that on the current/nearby planet there is a native bird that tastes
delicious and sells for a good price at the nearest meat market.
Therefore,
some, or all, of your crew decide to go hunting for these Yekrut birds.
However, these birds are the size of a man and more dinosaur than bird and are known
to be very aggressive with big claws and sharp beaks. The warp gods forbid you
end up near a nest with a protective mother nearby!
You can
either select how many of your crew you want to go on the hunt or roll a die to
decide randomly.
The playing
area doesn’t need to be more than 2’ by 2’.
For each
crew figure participating, assign 5 “potential” turkey trackers/tokens/markers.
These
markers are randomly placed as per the rules within the playing area.
The crew
will have a deployment zone as per the rules.
The crew
need to kill a minimum of three turkeys for the hunt to be completed (they are
greedy!). Another way to play this is to secure 100kg of meat.
You won’t
know how much weight of meat the crew have secured until the hunt is over at
the weigh in and the weight of each turkey is diced for us 1 d10 for tens and 1
d10 for units i.e. a score of 3 and 6 is 36 kilograms of meat.
Therefore,
the crew will have to weigh the risk in continuing versus the potential weight
they have or haven’t already secured.
You can add
further difficulty by saying that only half of this number is actual meat, the
other half is feathers, claws, red warty bits, feet, guts, head, neck, etc.
The profile
for Yekrut birds will be as a human size creature with fearsome melee weapons
and abilities such as jumping and leaping, though the Yekrut bird is flightless,
it can nevertheless do big flying leaps with stubby wing assistance. They can
also move fast on their legs.
For opposed play rather than solo you could have two or more competing crews, the crew that scores the most meat at the weigh in wins. But if for each crew member lost, deduct one whole turkeys worth of meat. Obviously if a crew member dies then any turkeys they killed are not counted.
When a turkey marker is revealed - dice to see if it is a nest - if so, you are immediately attacked by the mother turkey! Prepare yourself. Rate this turkey as at least plus 1 to all stats and wounds etc.
